Ellen DeGeneres Lavish $40 Million Mansion, Haunted?
Comedian and talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, who made it a habit to “scare” guests and even sending a couple of her executive producers to a haunted house, is now living in a real haunted house. And she paid millions of dollars for it too!
DeGeneres unknowingly purchased a $40 million haunted house in January. The lavish 13,000 square foot house she shares with her wife, actress Portia DeRossi, was reportedly haunted by the ghost of Frances, Sidney Brody’s wife and the original owner of the property. Known as the Brody House in Holmby Hills, the sprawling property was developed by Brody himself. It was built in 1951 specifically for his wife, Frances. A philanthropist and an art collector, Frances died in 2009 at the age of 93, after an extensive illness.
DeGeneres purchased the Brody House in January 2014, not knowing the place was haunted. According to the Ellen DeGeneres Show host, she got “freaked out” when she started hearing phantom footsteps and doors opening and closing on their own. Ellen would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night hearing a faint woman’s cry. Since taking ownership of the Brody House, Ellen reportedly never had a solid night’s sleep.
In order to get rid of the ghost, Ellen and Portia did some remodeling inside their home. Unfortunately, remodeling often leads to more frequent ghostly activities, especially if the former owners do not like the changes made in the property.
According to a story ran by the National Enquirer, DeGeneres was advised by friends to hold a “spiritual cleaning ceremony” to restore the peace and quiet in the home as well as to send positive energy to the place. Before moving in, DeGeneres did not believe in ghosts but now believes Frances’ restless spirit is still in the house, believing that she is still the owner.
There’s no word on whether or not the award-winning host will do a cleansing ceremony in her home as a way to appease the spirits but losing a lot of sleep in a 40 million property could be a powerful motivation.
